A cabinet committee at a meeting on Wednesday reviewed the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026, proposing a series of recommendations to update Bangladesh's cyber-security framework in response to rapid technological developments.

The meeting, held at the conference room of the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Secretariat, was chaired by Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, who serves as the committee's convener.

According to an official press release, the committee held detailed discussions on the draft legislation, focusing on strengthening cyber security, protecting citizens' rights and ensuring a safer environment for digital services amid the fast-changing digital landscape.

Committee members recommended several amendments to make the proposed law more relevant, effective and practical.

The recommendations will be incorporated into the draft before the committee meets again to finalise the legislation.

The meeting was attended by Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and Prime Minister's Adviser on the Ministries of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad.

Senior officials from the relevant ministries and agencies also participated in the meeting.
