Man, granddaughter killed in Lakshmipur road crash

A man and his granddaughter were killed after being hit by a speeding bus while crossing a road in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin (65) and his granddaughter Mim Akter (4) hailing from Bhola, a nearby district of Lakshmipur, as per UNB reports.

Police and locals said the victims got on a bus from Majhuchowdhuryhat to go to Chattogram in the morning.

As the bus stopped at a refueling station to refill fuel around 9 am Nasir Uddin and her granddaughter got off the bus.

When they were crossing Dhaka-Lakshmipur regional road another bus ran over them, leaving the child dead on the spot and the grandfather critically injured.

Nasir was rushed to Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, said the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer Dr Aurup Pal, adding that the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue.

Chandraganj Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter and said no one was arrested in this connection.
