Court holidays extended until May 30

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, in line with the government’s decision, has extended the ongoing closure of all courts across the country, including the Appellate and High Court divisions of the  Supreme Court till May 30 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The holidays of Shab-e-Qadar and Eid-ul-Fitar are also included in the new announcement, said a notification issued on Saturday by the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, Md Ali Akbar.

The officials of both the divisions of the Supreme Court and the lower courts across the country have been requested not to leave the workplace during the ongoing vacation, also read the notification.

Earlier on March 24, the SC authorities had issued a notification declaring closure for all courts till April 02 and later the closure was extended several times by other notifications due to the global Covid-19 situation.

Meanwhile, the chief justice has directed the lower courts across the country to continue trial proceedings of urgent cases including bail petitions through video conference during the ongoing vacation except holidays declared in the government calendar, said another notification of the Supreme Court.
