Parliamentary seats are set to be redistributed based on the number of voters in each district, with more seats allocated to districts with higher voter populations and fewer to those with lower numbers.

Accordingly, a specialised committee has recommended increasing one seat in Gazipur district and decreasing one seat in Bagerhat.

Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar disclosed this information during a press conference held on Wednesday (July 30) at the Election Commission Secretariat in the capital’s Agargaon.

He said, according to Articles 119 to 124 of the Constitution, the responsibility of determining constituencies for national elections lies with the Election Commission.

In this process, opinions from experts were taken into consideration. Recommendations from the Consensus Commission were also reviewed.

A team of specialists was formed, and various factors were carefully considered in determining the boundaries. Some data from the 2022 population census was also used in the process, the commissioner added.
