Journalist Biplab Zaman was laid to rest at the Mirpur Intellectuals Graveyard in the capital after Asr prayer on Sunday.
His family members, relatives, colleagues and other well-wishers were present there to pay their last respect.
His decomposed body was recovered by the police earlier on Saturday from his rented flat by breaking open the door at the Journalists Housing at Kalshi in Mirpur of the capital. He was nearly 65.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur zone, Md Jasim Uddin briefed journalists after the recovery of the body.
He said, “We entered his (the 4th floor) flat by breaking open the door which was locked from the inside and found the body lying on the balcony.”
The police official further said that the deceased had lived at the rented flat alone. He might have died some days back.
His body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family for burial.
Biplab Jaman left behind his divorced wife, two daughters and one son.
During his long career in journalism, he served in different newspapers including the Daily Star, the Independent, the New Age, the now-defunct Telegraph and The Morning Sun. Prior to his death, he was serving as the news consultant of The Financial Express.
Biplab Zaman hailed from a journalist family. His father M Anisuzzaman was a renowned journalist who served as the chief editor and managing director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangshta, the state-owned news agency, between 1997 and 1998.
His grandfather Moulana Ahmed Ali was the editor of Kolkata-based Bangla daily the Nabayug in undivided India under the British rule.
Biplab Zaman’s eldest brother Humayun Zaman was an associate editor of the New Age.
