Justice Md Emdadul Haque Azad, a High Court judge who recently likened the country’s situation to the hell, didn’t attend the court on Sunday, his last working day.

As Justice Emdadul was sick, he couldn’t attend the court on the last working day, said Md Golam Rabbani, registrar general of the Supreme Court.

However, sources quoted him as having told the Supreme Court administration that he would not receive any farewell reception on his last working day.

As per the custom of the Supreme Court, on the last working day, the Attorney General's office and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) give a farewell reception to an outgoing judge.

On October 10, while holding hearing on the admissibility of the appeal petition filed by rights body ‘Odhikar's Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and Director ASM Nasiruddin Elan in a case, the HC judge addressing a state lawyer remarked that they had made the country a hell.

Meanwhile, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin made a complaint to Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan to take action against Justice Md Emdadul Haque Azad for compared the country’s situation with the hell. At the same time, the Attorney General claimed that the judge has violated his oath.
