A Gaibandha court has sentenced former Jatiya Party MP Abdul Kader Khan and six others to death for killing Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton three years ago.
District and Sessions Judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmik passed the much-awaited verdict on Thursday after hearing all sides of arguments, reports bdnews24.
UNB adds: Earlier on November 19, the court had set November 28 for delivering its verdict in the murder case.
Liton, a former MP from Gaibandha-1 constituency, was gunned down by miscreants at his village home in Masterpara of Sundarganj upazila on December 31, 2016.
Liton’s sister later filed a case against several people with the Sundarganj Police Station.
Detectives arrested former Jatiya Party MP from Gaibandha-1 constituency Dr Abdul Kader Khan on February 21, 2017 from his home. Five days later, he confessed before a court to his involvement in the killing.
On April 30, 2017, police submitted a charge-sheet against eight people, including Kader Khan.
The court also sentenced Kader Khan to life imprisonment in a separate case filed under the Arms Act.
