Tarique Rahman has made it clear that his party will not compromise on the issue of free and fair elections held on a level playing field.
Speaking virtually from London at a training event of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal in Dhaka on Saturday, the BNP's de facto chief directed leaders and activists to take this message to every corner of the country, reports bdnews24.com.
The acting chairman said, "In the coming days, you will go to every union in the remotest parts of the country. You will speak to farmers, primary school teachers, housewives, small shopkeepers, and workers. You must deliver the same message to everyone: no matter who they vote for, the election must take place, and it must be done fairly and freely at all costs.”
Tarique emphasised that there would be no compromise on ensuring the elections are organised in an impartial manner.
"Our message is clear: Elections must fair and free. There can be no compromise on this. If we can ensure this, we will gradually solve the country’s problems and the people’s suffering,” he said.
He added, “Vote for whoever you want; I do not need your vote. Vote for whoever you think is the right person with your knowledge and wisdom.”
The event was held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail.
The Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal also announced plans to hold farmer gatherings at the union level over the next three months.
"There will be no sham elections or elections held in the dead of night. Voting must happen in the daylight, with the freedom to choose anyone. Voters must feel safe and secure during the process," added Tarique.
The BNP leader added that during the election, there should be no disturbances, and voters should be able to cast their votes freely, without any fear or intimidation.
"Voters should go to the polling stations, queue up, cast their votes, and give their mandate without fear," he concluded.
