Brahmanbaria Awami League leader Al Mamun dies

PM expresses deep shock and sorrow

Brahmanbaria district council chairman and district Awami League (AL) general secretary, valiant freedom fighter Al Mamun Sarker passed away on Monday morning at the age of 67, according to UNB and BSS.

Mamun Sarker breathed his last while sleeping at 8:00 am at his father-in-law's residence in the district due to complications of multiple prolonged diseases, Brahmanbaria district AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Bari Chowdhury Montu said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Al Mamun Sarkar.

In a condolence message, the premier said the people of Brahmanbaria have lost a people-loving leader with the death of Al Mamun Sarkar.

Sheikh Hasina, also the President of Bangladesh Awami League, prayed for the salvation of his departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Al Mamun Sarkar left behind wife, son, a host of relatives, well-wishers and political colleagues to mourn his death.

His namaj-e-janaza will be held after Asar prayer at the district Eidgah Maiden premises and then he will be buried at Sherpur graveyard in the city on Monday.

Mamun Sarker was chairman of Red Crescent Society of Brahmanbaria unit and former chairman of Brahmanbaria municipality.

He was involved with the politics of Chhatra League during his student life before joining the Awami League.
