Tarique to return and lead BNP’s electioneering: Aman

BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Amanullah Aman on Monday said their party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return home and lead the party’s election campaign ahead of the national election.

“The national election will be held in early 2026. Our leader Tarique Rahman will return home, contest the polls, and lead BNP’s campaign,” he said at a discussion organised by the Democratic League at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the second death anniversary of Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, reports UNB.

Referring to Tarique Rahman’s earlier comments about the fall of the previous government, Aman claimed his predictions had come true. “Tarique Rahman had said that the fate of the country would be decided on the streets — and it really was decided on the streets.”

In an oblique reference to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Aman alleged that the party is conspiring to foil the upcoming national election by resorting to various ploys.

“A certain party which had a controversial role during the Liberation War is now trying to foil the election in the name of the PR system. We want to make it clear that the election cannot be stopped,” he said.

Aman said Jamaat is making various efforts to create obstacles to the election while also carrying out negative campaigns against the BNP.

“You have seen movements over the last 16 years — from the anti-autocracy movement to the anti-Ershad struggles. In every crisis and difficult time, the Zia family and the BNP have always stood beside the people,” he said.

The BNP leader recalled the contributions of Saifuddin Moni to the democratic movement, especially his role in the struggle to establish the people’s right to vote.
