Tarique Rahman stands by mother who sold land for son’s treatment

Members of the Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) have successfully treated Ariful Islam, a boy who became paralysed after an accident in 2023. His mother had sold her land to pay for his treatment at Shaheed Sohrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka.
Upon learning about the family’s struggle, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman instructed the Amra BNP Poribar to provide assistance. After three months of treatment, on August 11, 2025, a team led by Dr Parvez Reza Kakon – Assistant Health Secretary of BNP’s Central Committee and Member Secretary of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) Rehabilitation Committee – visited the hospital. They discussed Ariful’s ongoing medication needs and future treatment plans after his discharge.
The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Tarique Rahman and the supervision of ZRF Executive Director Dr Forhad Halim, with support from Dr Shah Muhammad Amanullah, Chairperson of the ZRF Rehabilitation Committee.
Several doctors and specialists were present during the visit, including Pediatric Specialist Assistant Professor Dr Faruk Ahmed, Dr M R Hasan, Dr Hasibur Rahman, Dr Monnasir Zaman Remo, Dr Adnan Ahsan Chowdhury, Nafis Bin Shamim, Nazibur Nayeem, Shahriar Rahman Shakil, agricultural scientist Md Morsalin Khondokar Anik from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Md Maruf Hasan, and Md Khairul Islam Shawon.
Through the visiting team, Tarique Rahman conveyed his deep sympathy and support to Ariful’s mother.
