A tourist has died after falling into the sea while parasailing at Cox’s Bazar beach.

The incident happened at Dariyanagar beach around 12:30pm on Saturday, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police chief Sheikh Mohammad Ali said.
The victim, Shoubhik Roy, from Khulna, was visiting Cox’s Bazar with a nine-member tourist group.
Mahmudul Hasan, executive magistrate of the district administration’s tourism cell, said Shoubhik was seriously injured after falling into the sea during parasailing.
He was rescued and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Resident Medical Officer Subaktagin Mohammad Sohel said Shoubhik was brought to the hospital at 2:10pm but had died before arrival.
“Initially, it is believed that he died after falling into the sea. However, the exact cause of death will be known after the postmortem report,” he said.
Local businessman Parvez Alam said Shoubhik suddenly slipped from his safety harness and fell into the sea during the ride.
The death sparked grief among relatives and fellow travellers and anger among locals, who questioned the safety standards, equipment and supervision of parasailing operations at the beach.
