Hassle-free export-import certification, licensing and permit issuance digitally runs completely from today with the much-awaited Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) mechanism coming into full-scale operation.
Under a project implemented by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the single-window activity on trade has already been activated, said the NBR in a press statement Monday.
The BSW is an online platform through which importers and exporters can apply for and automatically receive all necessary certificates, licences and permits (CLP) required for goods clearance.
Before receiving a CLP, users must register in the BSW system (Website: bswnbr.gov.bd) using their Business Identification Number (BIN).
This is a common platform where all CLP-related activities for import-export goods are conducted simultaneously and online by all relevant authorities.
Chairman of the NBR Md Abdur Rahman sounds upbeat about faster trade run sans manual touches. "It's a milestone in the way to digitisation of NBR for ensuring transparency and accountability."
The BSW is aimed at eliminating personal (human) interaction in government processes, reduction in time and cost associated with importing and exporting goods.
Increased trust among local and international businesses, fostering investment and trade growth are also the boons expected from the technological innovation. As of June 30, 2025, the number of automatically issued CLPs through the BSW System exceeded 389,015. Of these, 85.97 per cent were issued in less than one hour, and 94.63 per cent in less than a day.
Currently, the submission of CLPs through the BSW System has been made mandatory for following by 19 issuing authorities: DGDA, EPB, DoEX, BNACWC, BEZA, BEPZA, DoE, BSTI, BAERA, BAEC, CAAB, BTRC, DOF, DLS, PQW, BIDA, BGMEA, BKMEA, and CCI&E.
From Tuesday, the submission of CLPs issued by these 19 authorities via BSW system has been made mandatory for customs clearance of all import and export consignments.
"All stakeholders involved in import-export trade are requested to cooperate in the implementation of the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW)," says the NBR statement.
For any assistance, call centre (Hotline: 16139) or website: www.bswnbr.gov.bd is available, it added.
