The general point-to-point inflation rate reached 9.92 per cent (pc) in August, 2023 up from 9.69 per cent registered in July, 2023 mainly due to the uptrend in food inflation.
The general point-to-point inflation rate in June, 2023 was 9.74 per cent, according to the latest data of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Although the food inflation witnessed increase last month, but the non-food inflation rate came down during the period.
The BBS data showed that the food inflation increased to 12.54 per cent in August up from 9.76 per cent in July.
On the other hand, the non-food inflation rate declined to 7.95 per cent in August down from 9.47 per cent in July.
The general point to point inflation both at the urban and rural areas also increased last month.
The point-to-point inflation in the rural areas in August was 9.98 per cent which was 9.75 per cent in July. On the other hand, the point-to-point inflation in the urban areas in August was 9.63 per cent which was 9.43 per cent in July.
The annual average inflation from September 2022 to August 2023 notched 9.24 per cent.
The wage rate index in August witnessed an uptrend with 7.58 per cent which was 7.52 per cent in July.
