The country's readymade garment industry has faced a production loss of US$400 million due to the recent labour unrest that has prevailed for more than a month since last September.
"We expect that work orders that shifted to other countries will return as normalcy is restored in the sector," Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Khandoker Rafiqul Islam said.
He made the remarks on Saturday during a press conference held at the BGMEA office in Uttara in the city.
The BGMEA president highlighted law and order, along with maintaining discipline, are now the major challenges for the garment industry, as factories are currently operating as usual.
He also requested the government not to disconnect utility services such as gas and electricity for at least three months in any industry saying many factories have been affected by the labour unrest.
Mr Islam further urged the government to lower bank interest rates to single digits.
