Pranay Verma appointed as next Indian ambassador to Belgium, EU

Pranay Kumar Verma, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, has been appointed as the country’s next ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs made the announcement in a press release on Friday.
“He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” it said.
Verma was posted to Dhaka in 2022. Prior to that, he had served as India’s ambassador to Vietnam.
On Tuesday, indianmandarins.com, a news site focused on India’s civil services and governance, reported on a rumour that Arif Mohammed Khan could soon be appointed as the next Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh.
The BJP politician had recently served as the governor of Bihar from 2025 to 2026. According to the outlet, Arif’s appointment would be the first time that the post has gone to a politician instead of a career diplomat for some time.
