The death toll in the ongoing floods in India's northeastern state of Assam has risen to 75, with another eight people still missing, officials said Wednesday.
According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sivasagar district reported the highest 37 deaths, followed by Charaideo and Jorhat districts with 20 and nine deaths respectively.
Meanwhile, 2,185 villages across 25 districts were hit, and over 1.14 million people were affected by floods in the state.
The authorities have set up 215 relief camps where 71,312 people have taken shelter. Apart from this, 1,718 relief distribution centers have been opened up in the affected districts.
Sarma said the floods have fully damaged 1,368 residential houses, and another 11,066 houses have suffered partial damage.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority said over 45,341 hectares of cropland remain submerged in water.
