Bangladesh University of Professionals Economics Club (BUPEC) has launched the third edition of POMAC, an inter-university policymaking competition to be held at the BUP campus in Dhaka.
All undergraduate students are eligible for the competition, where they will be required to create a team of three to four members. Cross-university teams are also eligible for the competition. Registration for the event is open until October 13, 2022. There will be an online workshop on October 15 which will brief the students about hints, strategies, methods, and techniques. Afterwards, the three rounds event will begin. The first round is set to be held online and the other rounds will be held offline.
The event is being organised with the objective to encourage young minds to engage in critical thinking and develop their ability to address pressing socio-economic issues. In the first round of POMAC 3.0, students will work together to develop accurate and strong reasoning skills for case solving. In the next round of the competition, the qualifying teams will have a face-off. The opponents for the groups will be chosen randomly. For the third and final round, the top six teams will fight to solve a new case and present their solutions to a panel of prominent economists as judges.
The winning teams will be selected based on the participants' capability for creative thinking and policy formation and will be awarded a handsome prize pool.
At its core, this competition is designed to provide a framework for undergraduates to learn how to devise welfare programmes and address the ongoing socio-economic issues of the country by providing the opportunity to compete against one another. The BUP Economics Club intends to achieve a flourishing level of accomplishment in research, recognition, and policy circulation related to economics and other relevant disciplines and areas.
Previously, BUP Economics Club successfully organised two editions of POMAC back in 2019 and 2021, which saw participants from all over the country.
