Aligned with the SDG agenda, ‘Project Green Cox's Bazar’ has been launched on the initiative of five local organisations of JCI Bangladesh to maintain the harmony of the environment, and cut down carbon emissions.
In this project, JCI Bangladesh has started an afforestation initiative on a grand five-kilometre stretch of land along the Marine Drive of Cox’s Bazar. Trees are also being planted in the local schools with the hopes of encouraging and inspiring the students about the plantation.
They are going to arrange many awareness sessions and seminars with the relevant local stakeholders and international chapters of JCI. Department of Forest has been also supporting and encouraging this project in many ways and working collaboratively with JCI Bangladesh.
As the chief guest, MP Shaimum Sarwar Kamal inaugurated the project at Cox's Bazar. Cox's Bazar Press Club General Secretary, Mujibul Islam was present as a special guest at the opening ceremony. In addition, Fahim Ahmed, local president of JCI Dhaka Ace, was present as the Chief Coordinator of the project.
The Local President of JCI Cox's Bazar Mr Abu Farhan, Local President of JCI Dhaka West Md. Altamis Nabil, Local President of JCI Chittagong Mr Abu Bakar Shahed Shaan and Local president of JCI Dhaka United Mr Md. Azazul Hasan Khan were also present at the event. The event was further graced by the presence of Khadiza Akhter, Chairperson, National Digital Transformation Committee, JCI Bangladesh.
The incumbent Member of Parliament from Cox's Bazar-3, Shaimum Sarwar Kamal was the chief guest on the occasion, and he mentioned the following, “Cox's Bazar is a disaster-prone area. However, due to the dredging of Bakkhali and the construction of some dams, there has been no catastrophic flood in the last four years. Nevertheless, we have to be prepared for any catastrophic flood, and thus, the young generation must come forward to save lives and property in the floods, where JCI Bangladesh can play a big role.”
He added, "I am very happy to be associated with a great initiative like Project Green Cox's Bazar. As far as I know, the local organisations of JCI Bangladesh have been regularly organising various activities for the protection of the country and environment."
"Project Green Cox's Bazar is undoubtedly a commendable initiative in that regard. I would like to thank all those involved in this project and wish them all the best.”
Fahim Ahmed, chief coordinator of the project and local president of JCI Dhaka Ace, also mentioned, “Global warming poses a serious threat to the world. And if the temperature rises by only one and a half degrees Celsius, we will face extreme disaster. The theme of this year’s world environment day is 'Only One Earth.' So, to save our only planet earth, there is no alternative to planting more trees. With that in mind, we have taken the initiative of afforestation through Project Green Cox's Bazar.”
The Special Guest of the event was Cox's Bazar’s Press Club General Secretary Mr Mujibul Islam who said, “This initiative to protect the environment deserves praise. My expectation is that the activities of Project Green Cox's Bazar will spread across the country.”
Md. Altamis Nabil, Local President, JCI Dhaka West, said, "Through this project, we want to inspire people to plant trees along with beautification and environmental development of Cox's Bazar Marine Drive.”
In conclusion, in the spirit of World Environment Day, this project will encourage people to come forward to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions. The objective is to save the world’s largest beach from any sort of natural disaster.
