Professor Dr Shams Rahman has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of East West University (EWU).
The Chancellor of the University, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin, appointed him as the vice-chancellor for a four-year term, according to a press release.
Dr Rahman will serve as the sixth vice-chancellor of EWU.
Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and founder VC of EWU, as well as a former governor of Bangladesh Bank, welcomed Dr Rahman at the EWU campus on Wednesday.
Professor Rahman is an international expert in Supply Chain Management, with more than 250 research papers published in international journals, conferences, and book chapters. He also serves as the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management and is a member of the editorial boards of 15 international journals.
In recognition of his academic and research work, Professor Rahman has received numerous awards from renowned institutions at home and abroad. He has been involved in teaching and research at the University of Sydney and various universities in the USA and UK.
Professor Rahman obtained his PhD degree from the University of Exeter, UK under the Commonwealth Scholarship. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Belarus Institute of Technology and a Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand.
He completed his SSC and HSC at Mirzapur Cadet College.
