Renowned Bangladeshi film actor and founder of the ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ movement, Ilias Kanchan, has been unwell for the past seven months and has been undergoing treatment in London for the last six months.

His son Mirazul Moin Joy disclosed the information virtually from Canada while speaking at a press conference organised by Nirapad Sarak Chai today (Wednesday) at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

He confirmed that his father has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and the treatment is still ongoing in London.

Joy informed the media that Ilias Kanchan has been staying in London since 26 April 2025 solely for medical reasons. Earlier this year, he faced several health complications, which worsened over time.

On April 9, his family took him to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhaka, where, after six hours of tests, including an MRI, doctors discovered a brain tumour.

Following medical advice, the family decided to take Ilias Kanchan abroad for treatment.

According to doctors, a 30-day course of radiation and chemotherapy—five days a week over six weeks—will begin this month. After completing this stage, he will remain under observation for four weeks.

The acting chairman of the organization Mirazul Moin Joy has appealed to the people of Bangladesh to keep his father in their prayers for a speedy recovery.
