Appellate Division gets three new judges

Three judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court have been elevated to the Appellate Division, raising the number of judges in the apex court to nine. 

President Md Abdul Hamid has appointed three new judges in the apex court according to the Article 95(1) of the Constitution. 

The newly appointed judges are--- Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Jahangir Hossain, according to a notification issued by the law ministry on Thursday. 

The appointment will come into effect after their oath, also read the notification. 

Meanwhile, the newly appointed judges will take their oath at 4.00pm on Thursday, said Md Golam Rabbani, Registrar General of the SC. Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique will administer the oath at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge, added the official. 

Currently, there are six judges in the appellate division, Hasan Foez Siddique (chief justice), Muhammad Imman Ali, Md Nuruzzaman, Obaidul Hassan, Justice Borhanuddin and Justice M Enayetur Rahim.
