Brigadier General Miftah Uddin Ahmed has been taken into military custody, a day after prosecutors submitted formal charges in the case over the 2018 killing of former Teknaf councillor Ekramul Haque.
The Bangladesh Army took the serving officer into custody on Monday after the charges were filed with the International Crimes Tribunal over the alleged extrajudicial killing in Cox's Bazar’s Teknaf.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the development to the media, bdnews24.com reports.
Miftah, who was commander of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 at the time of the 2018 incident, is among the 11 accused in the case.
Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also been named in the case.
