A special court in Dhaka on Sunday ordered freezing 70 bank accounts of Nasrul Hamid Bipu, former state minister for power and energy, allowing an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also ordered the confiscation of the former Awami League lawmaker's three Toyota Land Cruiser cars and four flats in capital's Ramna and Banani areas, as ACC sought in the application.
Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain, passed the order after ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin Islam, who is leading the inquiry team, submitted the application.
In the application, the ACC official said they learned from credible sources that the accused has been attempting to transfer his properties. Therefore, an order is needed to prevent him from doing so, the application read.
On December 26 last year, the ACC filed three cases against Nasrul Hamid, his wife Seema Hamid, and his son Zarif Hamid for allegedly amassing illegal assets worth over Tk 640 million.
