Two shot dead in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Aug 11: Two persons were shot dead and seven others injured in a clash this evening in Kaichail village under Nagarkanda upazila of the district Saturday, police said, reports BSS.

The deceased were Rawshan Ali, 48, and Tuhin Mia, 28.

The injured were Mawla, 30, Raihan Mia, 70, Biplob, 25, Anis Mir, 24, Faruk Matubbor, 40, Chunnu Mia, 48, and Sumon Mia, 28.

Superintendent of Police Md. Alimuzzaman confirmed the incident.

The clash ensued between the supporters of Kobir Hossain alias Thandu, chairman of Kaichail Union Parishad and Hasan Ali, a local political leader, following a previous enmity, local sources said.

There had an altercation between the groups in a local tea stall centering the sacrificial animals. Later, they chased one another and opened fire, leaving nine persons critically injured.

Rawshawn and Tuhin succumbed to their injuries on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) and seven others were admitted to FMCH, Director of FMCH Kamoda Prashad Saha said.

Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further untoward incident.
