All elections will be held in EVM from now on: EC

RAJSHAHI, April 21: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed said all the local government elections will be held through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) from now on.

“The EVM is enriched with modern technologies. So, the EC will use it confidently in the local body election,” he further said while addressing a view-sharing meeting with election officials related to the voter list

updating programme- 2019 at a restaurant in the city today as the chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Regional Election Officer Faridul Islam and District Senior Election Officer Saiful Islam also spoke on the occasion, among others.

Helaluddin Ahmed said the third gender people will be brought under voter list this year. So, they can avail the scope of exercising their rights of franchise in polling centres like other voters.

He also said the government remains highest alert so that not a single foreigner or Rohyngia can get chance of enlisting their name in voter list.

District administration and police department were asked to remain vigil on movement of Rohyngia in their residing areas and its surrounding 32 identified points round the clock.

The EC Secretary also addressed the inaugural ceremony of a training workshop of enumerators and supervisors on updating the voter list at Rajshahi Government Model School and College today as the chief guest.
