The dream of people living in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar is going to come true as Bangladesh Railway (BR) will construct the new rail-cum-road bridge over the River Karnaphuli at Kalurghat which will upgrade both rail and road communications in the greater Chattogram.

Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to lay the foundation stone on May 14. He will also attend the convocation ceremony of Chittagong University on that day.

Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md. Fahimul Islam on April 11 visited the site for laying the foundation stone.

On October 7 last year, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the Tk 115.6077 billion project titled 'Construction of Railway-cum-Road Bridge across the River Karnaphuli at Kalurghat Point'.

The construction work of the long-awaited bridge is likely to begin in December. The roads and highways division will construct the roads connecting the bridge.

According to the DPP, the new bridge will have four lanes. Traffic will move in two lanes while the train will use the remaining part.
