Tension escalated in various parts of Dhaka on Wednesday as 50 individuals, including journalists, police officers, students, and bystanders, were injured and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment amidst protests demanding quota reform.
Five of the injured have been admitted for further medical care.
The incidents unfolded in a series of clashes that began early in the morning and persisted until around 8:00 pm., UNB reports.
In the Shonir Akhra area, six people, including a child, were wounded in police gunfire. They are currently under care in the emergency ward, as confirmed by DMCH Police Outpost In-charge Bachchu Mia.
Among those injured in the Shonir Akhra area are Sohag (27), Faisal (28), Mahim Ahmed Piyas (15), Monirul (20), Rohid (2) and Bablu Mia (40).
Among those injured since morning are: journalist Tarek (25), Habib (30), Jiban (25), Solaiman (26), Bhashok Bhaduri (38), Johnny Rayhan (33), Ratan (40), and Humayun (35).
Sub-inspector Ibrahim (32) was also among those injured when a brickbat hit him while he was on a rickshaw in Azimpur area.
Other individuals among the injured include Kausar (20), Oliullah (27), Naeem (24), Saidul (26), Iqbal (50), Sohag (28), Limon (15), Mizan (20), Ferdous (40), Kobita (45), Nasrin (48), Rahima (50), Bijoy (24), Ripon (39), Dil Afroz (30), Abdul Hadi (21), Md Masud (21), Tanjil (27), Zakir (22), Zahirul (26), Asaduzzaman (23), Mehdi Hasan (25), Jawad (20), Masud (24), Abdul Hannan (24), Afsana Jui (23), Tanjila (22), Sihab Uddin (30), Asif (22), Tahmid (25), Bhaumik (29), Shakib (20), and Ariful (42).
Admitted for treatment are pedestrian Kausar (20), student Oliullah (27), Ashraf Alam (32), Tanjil (27), and Faisal (28).
