The Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA) in a statement today strongly condemned and protested the attack on policemen by the anti-rape protesters.
"We strongly condemned and protested these anti-law and order acts," said the BPSA statement, BSS reports.
The statement was signed by its President Additional IGP (Administration)
Bangladesh Police Headquarters, Md. Matiur Rahman Sheikh and General Secretary, Superintendent of Police, Dhaka District, Md. Anisuzzaman.
At the same time, Bangladesh Police is committed to working tirelessly to implement the ideals and goals of the interim government with professionalism, it said.
The statement said that some unruly people attacked the police at the InterContinental hotel at Shahbagh in the capital. The matter has come to the notice of the BPSA.
A group of 60-70 people, including men and women, tried to go towards the official residence of the Chief Adviser "Jamuna" in the name of an anti-rape march around 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
As the policemen stopped the agitators from heading towards the Jamuna and tried to pacify them, the protesters attacked the policemen with brick chips and batons.
Assistant Police Commissioner of DMP, Ramna Zone, Dhaka, Abdullah Al Mamun, was seriously injured in the attack by the protesters. Several other police members were injured in the attack.
