World’s first ever floating nuclear power plant (NPP) Akademik Lomonosov, currently in trial operation in Pevek town of Russia’s Chukotka Region, has supplied more than 21 million kWh of electricity to the isolated autonomous Chaun-Bilibino energy grid.

A project of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom- Akademik Lomonosov is expected to be commissioned for commercial operation in summer 2020 after additional tests and the issuance of a permit by Russia’s nuclear energy watchdog Rostechnadzor, said a Media release.

Following this, the Floating NPP will supply Pevek town with thermal energy.

The first subdistrict of the town will be connected to heat supply starting from summer 2020; the rest of the town will be connected by 2021.
