Bangladesh sent about 0.75 million (7.5 lakh) workers abroad in the seven months of the current calendar year.
The outflow of workers rose by more than 10 per cent in July compared to the manpower export in June, official statistics showed.
The country sent 743,426 workers to different job destination countries in the January-July period, showed the data of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).
About 125,850 Bangladeshis found jobs abroad in July and 114,175 in June, the data also revealed.
Of the total outflow of workers in the last seven months, the highest 36 per cent went to Saudi Arabia. Malaysia came second as it hired over 29 per cent followed by Oman with 12 per cent. Bangladesh sends workers to mainly 20 countries.
Sources say if the trend of hiring workers by Malaysia continues, the sector may fetch about 1.4 million overseas jobs this year.
Malaysia has increased recruitment of manpower from Bangladesh. The Southeast Asian country hired 218,415 workers in the last seven months.
Although overseas jobs are increasing, quality migration is not happening. Workers in the Middle East and Malaysia are paying higher migration costs, sources said.
On the other hand, many of them are not getting good salary while many others are forced to return home after finding no jobs.
Experts have emphasised quality migration rather than increasing the numbers only.
As quality migration is not happening, the remittance inflow will not inrease that much despite the numbers rising, they said.
According to the Bangladesh Bank data, remittances sent home by Bangladeshis working abroad fell nearly 6.0 per cent to US$1.97 billion in July, 2023 from US$ 2.09 billion in July 2022. Besides, the inward remittances fell by more than 10 per cent from June 2023.
