Dhaka Elevated Expressway: guidelines and restrictions

As Dhaka Elevated Expressway’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport-Farmgate section is set to open to traffic on Sunday, authorities have unveiled a set of crucial guidelines and restrictions to ensure the safety and efficiency of this new transportation artery.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Bangladesh Bridge Authority released these guidelines and restrictions through a public notice issued on Friday.

PROHIBITION of 2- and 3-WHEELER VEHICLES and PEDESTRIANS

Two- and three-wheeler vehicles, as well as pedestrians, will be strictly prohibited from accessing the elevated expressway.

PARKING and PHOTOGRAPHY RESTRICTIONS

Parking any type of vehicle on the elevated expressway and taking photographs while standing outside of a vehicle are strictly prohibited activities.

SPEED LIMITS

A maximum speed limit of 60 km/h will be enforced on the expressway's main road, while on-ramps it will have a maximum speed limit of 40 km/h.

TOLL COLLECTION

Vehicles can access and exit Dhaka Elevated Expressway from specific locations by paying toll fees. These locations include:

Access Points for Southbound Vehicles: Kawla (south of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport), Pragati Sarani, and Army Golf Club on Airport Road

Exit Points for Southbound Vehicles: Banani Kamal Ataturk Avenue, in front of Mohakhali Bus Terminal, and beside Indira Road at the Farmgate end

Access Points for Northbound Vehicles: North and South Lanes of Bijoy Sarani Overpass and in front of Banani Railway Station

Exit Points for Northbound Vehicles: In front of Mohakhali Bus Terminal, Airport Road in front of Banani Kamal Ataturk Avenue, Kuril Biswa Road, and in front of Airport 3rd Terminal

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate Dhaka Elevated Expressway's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport-Farmgate section on Saturday.
