Daffodil signs MoU with DPDT to establish Technology and Innovation Support Center

Daffodil International University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, DPDT, under the Ministry of Industries, to establish a Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) on its campus.
The signing ceremony was held at the university’s conference room, where Director General of DPDT Md Jahangir Hossain attended as the chief guest, according to a media release.
Also present were Director Dr Ashok Kumar Roy, Deputy Director Md Habibur Rahman, Daffodil International University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr Md Sabur Khan, Vice Chancellor Dr M R Kabir, along with deans, department heads, faculty members and administrative and research officials.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of DPDT emphasised the importance of industry-academia collaboration in developing practical and commercially viable patents.
The Director highlighted the growing importance of patents in fostering industry-oriented innovation, while the Deputy Director presented a detailed overview of the patent filing process and outlined the benefits associated with establishing a TISC.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university Dr M R Kabir underscored the importance of patents, stating that Daffodil International University consistently prioritises applied and practical research.
He noted that obtaining a patent is comparable to completing multiple research works and highlighted various facilities and incentives provided by the university to encourage research and patent development.
The Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed by Director General Md Jahangir Hossain on behalf of DPDT and Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M R Kabir on behalf of Daffodil International University.
Under this agreement, a Technology and Innovation Support Center will be established at the university, offering students, researchers and innovators essential guidance and support in patent search, application procedures and intellectual property protection.
University authorities stated that this initiative will encourage innovative thinking and research among students and help transform ideas into practical outcomes.
They expressed confidence that this collaboration will play a significant role in advancing the country’s innovation and research landscape and contribute to building a knowledge-based economy in the future, the release adds.
