DU launches Niloufer Manzur Memorial Scholarship for meritorious students

The Niloufer Manzur Memorial Scholarship Programme has been inaugurated to provide scholarships to meritorious and economically disadvantaged students of the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University.

The initiative was taken with the financial support of the Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) Foundation.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the scholarship programme at the university campus on Monday.

MTB Foundation officials handed over a check of Tk 1.32 million to the DU VC to start the scholarship programme.

Under this programme, scholarships will be given to the students every year based on their academic results.

A total of 34 students of different departments of the Faculty of Business Studies received the scholarship this year.

Ms Niloufer Manzur, country’s renowned educationist and founding principal of Sunbeams School, passed away at the age of 74 on May 26 last year while undergoing Covid-19 treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital.

Late Niloufer Manzur was the wife of eminent industrialist and former caretaker government adviser Syed Manzur Elahi.

Syed Manzur Elahi, founding Chairman of MTB, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director and CEO of MTB, DU Professor Razia Begum, among others, spoke at the inaugural ceremony of the scholarship programme.

Prof Abdul Moin, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, gave a note of thanks.

DU VC paid a deep homage to the memory of Niloufer Manzur, a former student of Dhaka University and an eminent academic. He thanked the concerned people, including MTB for providing this scholarship to the students of Dhaka University.

Congratulating the scholarship recipients, the VC inspired students to overcome all the obstacles to the path of acquiring knowledge and skills and to work for the development of the country.
