The Global Innovation and Leadership Centre (GILC), a renowned local youth leadership organisation, launched the International Leadership Program on Education (ILPE) at the United International University (UIU) recently. This year's theme is ‘English and ICT’. GILC collaborated with GEIST International Foundation & GEIST Centre in arranging this event.
The qualifying rounds of the Central Dhaka event started with the official opening ceremony of the programme. The opening ceremony was conducted by the honorary vice president (in charge) of United International University. Abul Kashem Mia led participants in deep conversations on how to develop leadership skills and continuously work on herself through study perseverance and transform into a complete human being. The programme was led by Biplob Kumer Deb, president of GEIST International Foundation and Saffat Ahmed Bhuiyan, chair of ILPE V3.0. In addition to a qualifying round of quizzes held later in the day, participants will have opportunities to develop skills for global citizenship, higher education opportunities in the United States, English language and leadership, international exchange opportunities for high school students, and more.
International Leadership Program on Education (ILPE) is the first initiative in Bangladesh to try to combine time-sensitive subjects such as English proficiency and leadership. In addition to public speaking, presentations, critical thinking, problem-solving and crisis, young people and young minds are required to understand the current scenario in Bangladesh where the country seeks to make the most of its demographic dividend, should be given a platform to share their English skills. Management, collaboration, team building, etc. These are basically sub-areas of overall leadership quality.
Over 1,300 students from 60 schools and colleges in Dhaka attended ILPE's Central Dhaka event. Surprisingly, the participation rate of female participants was recorded at 60 per cent, clearly demonstrating the level of commitment and inspiration of female students when it comes to self-improvement as learners and leaders.
“One of the reasons students have enjoyed ILPE in recent years is that it improves their English skills, along with various aspects of leadership such as presentations, public speaking, and critical thinking. It's important for us,” said ILPE V3.0 Convenor Saffat Ahmed Bhuiyan, one of the ILPE participants. "ILPE's competitive modules are really exciting, and I can't wait to learn and showcase my skills in a national program like this," added Saffat.
International Leadership in Education started in 2019. From January 01, 2023 GILC regional rounds will be held in 11 districts.
