Bangladesh University of Professionals Development Leader's Club (BUPDLC) has successfully organised its most awaited signature event -- DEVTHON 2.0-- second edition of the country's broadest social development competitions at the university level.
This platform is an opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with development practices, enabling them to think about the nation and world's development prospects whilst also bringing out their creative development ideas.
The contest asked participants to solve societal issues such as urban poverty, unemployment, etc., and challenged them to come up with the most appropriate approaches to tackle such problems.
One of the panelists of this year's Devthon 2.0, Mostafa Amir Sabbih, social protection specialist at World Bank, said, " Devtalk and social science-related case competition should be arranged more to give opportunities to the young talented minds to explore new areas beyond academic streams and contribute both national and international community through new development innovations".
There were two phases in this year's event, which was held on two different days. First is the Development Case Competition (for undergrad students), and the other is the Devtalk (a session of young development practitioners). The uniqueness of this competition is that all the rounds are designed solely to focus on development practices among young potentials. Eventually, after the toughest battle among participants, there are successfully six teams positioned for the final round held on November 05 at BUP. Team Devcrew from BUP became second runner up, and Team Elder Wand from NSU became first runner up. They were awarded with Tk 20,000 and Tk 30,000 respectively. Devthon 2.0 winner, Team vaccinated Policy (cross university from BUP, RUET, BUET) received Tk 50,000.
Chief guest of Devthon 2.0 Major General Md Moshfequr Rahman encouraged empowerment of women and their participation in all areas to achieve the possible outcomes and progress for society.
In 2020, BUPDLC successfully organised the first edition of DEVTHON, which attracted participation from universities across the country.
