The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast an increase in rainfall across the country over the next five days, commencing 9:00 am on Monday

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning are likely at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Barishal divisions," the Met Office said in a regular bulletin.

Rainfall is also likely at one or two places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy falls expected in parts of the country.

Day temperatures may fall slightly, while night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.

The highest rainfall in the 24 hours until 6:00 am on Monday was recorded in Sylhet, with 51 mm of rain.

The trough of low pressure persists from West Bengal to the northwest Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon has advanced into Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Conditions remain favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon across Bangladesh over the next three to four days, the BMD said.
