At least 15 people have been injured in a clash between residents of two neighbourhoods in Pabna’s Bera Upazila.
The clash occurred on Monday after an announcement was made on a mosque microphone over control of a river terminal.
A local BNP office was vandalised and set on fire, while several businesses were looted and multiple houses were attacked.
Police and Army personnel rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control afterwards.
Bera Model Police Station chief Habibul Islam said the incident took place between the residents of Brisalikha and Saudagar Para areas of the Upazila.
The injured are receiving treatment at multiple places, including Bera Upazila Health Complex, though their identities are not yet confirmed, he added.
The conflict escalated after a group led by local BNP leader Hasan Ali tried to reclaim the jetty, which was previously controlled by Awami League members.
During the clash, attackers vandalised and set fire to the Ward No. 1 BNP office, and shooting was reported.
Police fired blank shots to restore order, with Army personnel deployed to prevent further incidents.
Bera Municipality BNP President Fazlur Rahman Fakir denied involvement, calling the clash a dispute between extortionists and so-called BNP members.
No party had filed a written complaint by 7pm, Habibul said.
