The Second International Mother Tongue Journalist Conference 2025 will take place in Kathmandu on June 13 and 14.
The event is being jointly organised by the SAARC Journalists Forum (SJF) and the National Forum for Newar Journalists (NFNJ) of Nepal.
According to NFNJ President Nripendra Lal Shrestha, preparations for the two-day conference are in their final stages, with all logistical arrangements nearly complete.
SJF President Raju Lama said that the conference aims to highlight the significance of journalism in native languages and its role in preserving linguistic diversity across South Asia, adding that the event is expected to have a lasting impact on regional media practices.
Over 100 journalists from across South Asia are expected to attend the event, with discussions focusing on the challenges, opportunities, and future of mother tongue journalism in the region.
The SAARC Journalists Forum has organised ten international conferences in the past two years, including its most recent event in Rajasthan, India, in April 2025.
