Arrest warrant issued against actress Meher Afroz Shaon

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against actress and filmmaker Meher Afroz Shaon in a case filed over allegations of physically assaulting her parents.

The order was issued on Tuesday (April 22) by the Dhaka Metropolitan 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The case was filed by Shaon’s stepmother, Nishi Islam, who accused her of physical abuse. The complaint also includes 12 other accused, including former Detective Branch (DB) chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.

According to the case details, in early 2024, Shaon’s father, engineer Mohammad Ali, posted an advertisement on a marriage platform seeking a bride. This led to his introduction and subsequent marriage to Nishi Islam.

Following the marriage, Shaon allegedly subjected her father to physical and mental abuse after finding out about the marriage. It is further alleged that Shaon, along with her siblings, used their influence to have their stepmother Nishi imprisoned for six months.
