ATM Sajedul Huq, former director of ULAB’s Center for Language Studies, dies at 61

ATM Sajedul Huq, one of the most celebrated English language teachers in Bangladesh, has passed away after prolonged illness.

He died at a hospital on Wednesday. He was 61, reports bdnews24.com. 

The son of Prof ATM Zahurul Huq, a former chair of the University Grants Commission and Dhaka University economics professor and DUTA president for several terms, Sajed served as director of ULAB’s English Language Centre.

He taught at several universities in Bangladesh and Thailand, including BRAC University, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, and Chiang Mai University. He was a popular lecturer and was also known for developing courses for top corporate executives in Thailand and Bangladesh.

His areas of interest included comic literature and business English.

“Unimaginable," Humaira Chowdhury, a former co-worker, wrote on Facebook. "My former colleague, a loving Boro Bhai and the most popular faculty of Department of English at BRAC Uni while I was teaching there. Together, we officiated TARC Residential Semester of BRAC U. for the first time in 2004. Also, we were the team that regenerated BELTA (Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association) in 2004 under Dr. Arifa Rahman's great leadership. This is truly sad. Unimaginable. Isssh. May Allah grant him Jannat.”
