Annie calls for urgent formation of elected government at JCD rally

BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie on Sunday emphasised the urgent need for an elected government in Bangladesh alongside ongoing reforms, according to local media reports.

Speaking at a student rally in Shahbagh—part of the BNP’s month-long programme marking one year since the July uprising—Annie said, “July has shown us that there can be no ‘Hall of Mirrors’ in this country. It destroyed that illusion. Now, July brings a new demand—justice for Hasina. That justice is essential and must be made visible.”

He stressed that without a people’s government, reforms would remain incomplete. “We believe that if a fair and impartial election is held, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party will lead the next government,” Annie asserted.
