Workers of a readymade garment factory (RMG) blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway for around two and a half hours protesting the death of a fellow worker in a road accident in Gazipur city on Tuesday morning.

The protesters said a speeding truck crashed into one of the female workers and left her dead on the spot in Hurricane Bust Stand area under Gachha police station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) around 8:15 am.

Following the death, the co-workers of Interloop BD Limited took to the highway halting the vehicular movement and it continued till around 11:00 am, reports UNB.

Being informed, police and army personnel rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control and removed the agitators from the highway, paving the path for vehicular movement.

Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road, causing suffering to commuters and others, particularly office-goers.

SM Ashraful Alam, deputy commissioner of Gazipur city traffic division, said they dispersed the agitators from the highway after being assured of taking measures.
