To commemorate first anniversary of July Mass uprising, First International Conference (ICJR-I) will be held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building in Dhaka University today (Sunday).

The conference, titled "The Legacy of July Revolution 2024: Rebuilding Bangladesh”, is aimed to enhance awareness about the impact of July Uprising while facilitating deep, policy-oriented discussions on the country's future. With the vision of shaping "Bangladesh 2.0," the event is being organised by the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University in collaboration with ten institutions from both home and abroad.

Participating institutions include Department of Political Science of Jagannath University, University of Regina in Canada, School of Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, School of Peace and Conflict Studies at Kent State University in the United States, International Institute of Law and Diplomacy, Bangladesh 2.0 Initiative based in the United Kingdom, US-based  platform Sochchar, Dhaka-based organization Insaf and Center for Policy and Social Research in Turkey.

In addition to academic institutions, the event is also being supported by several justice-focused organizations and community-based non-profit initiatives.

The conference will host more than fifteen distinguished speakers and include over nine live panel discussions. Among the key speakers are Dr. Amor Abdullah, Emeritus Professor at the University for Peace (UPEACE) in Costa Rica; Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Amar Desh; Dr. Md Saidul Islam, professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; Dolly Begum, a member of the Provincial Parliament in Ontario of Canada; John Danilovich, a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State; and Dr. Usama Al-Azami, professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar.

More than 400 research papers submitted from across the world over the conference. After a rigorous peer review process, 60 of these submissions have been selected for presentation. The selected papers will be presented by university professors, activists, student leaders, legal experts, and policymakers, each offering diverse perspectives grounded in their lived experiences, research findings, and policy insights.

Organizers believe that the conference will not only highlight the historical significance of the July Mass uprising but also serve as a meaningful step toward building a just and inclusive future for Bangladesh. With participation from international researchers, policy experts, and civil society representatives, the event promises to be a landmark moment in understanding and shaping the post-revolution trajectory of the nation.
