Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday offered an unconditional apology to anyone harmed by the actions or performance of the party or its members.
“We do not claim to be above mistakes as a political party. We sincerely ask for forgiveness from anyone who may have been hurt or wronged by our activities or the actions of our members,” Dr. Shafiqur said at an emergency press briefing held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka after the Supreme Court acquitted party leader ATM Azharul Islam of war crimes, overturning his death sentence.
He further urged, “Please forgive us if our conduct or performance has caused any pain.”
The Jamaat Ameer said this verdict proves that truth cannot be concealed.
“The truth pierces through the clouds and emerges with a flash of light."
He further said many of the nation's burning issues still remain unresolved.
In addressing these, all political parties and relevant stakeholders must prioritize the interests of the people above all else, the Jamaat chief added.
