Jatiya Party Secretary General Shameem Haider Patwary has demanded the cancellation of the Gono Odhikar Parishad’s registration and the immediate arrest of those responsible for the arson attack at the Jatiya Party central office in Kakrail.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday night, he blamed Gono Odhikar Parishad for the violence.
“The party’s registration must be scrapped and the culprits brought to justice within 24 hours. If those backing them are not arrested within this time, we will launch an intense movement across the country,” Patwary said.
He argued that the actions of Gono Odhikar Parishad met the criteria for deregistration under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Commenting on the police’s handling of the situation, Patwary said: “Police presence was adequate, but without arms, police cannot control such mobs by themselves. That is why the deployment of the Army is necessary.”
