Rahat Hossain Rabbi, a 31-year-old man, was hacked to death on the staircase of a shisha bar in the Banani area early Thursday.
The attack occurred around 4:30 am while he was coming down from the bar at Holding No. 100 on Banani Road 11, police said.
Rabbi was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
According to the victim’s brother-in-law, Md Delwar Hossain, Rabbi lived with his wife and family in Mohakhali area of the capital. On Wednesday night, he had gone to meet two friends.
Russell Sarwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, said Rabbi was descending from the bar when six to seven men with sharp weapons attacked him indiscriminately.
Police are conducting drives to arrest the attackers, the OC added.
