Whenever the country’s LDC graduation takes place, stakeholders shouldn't compromise on the necessary preparations, noted economist and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr Mustafizur Rahman said on Sunday.
“We may apply (to defer the graduation), but I personally believe that there should be no lack in our preparations,” he said.
There are several technical issues with the application procedure for deferring the LDC graduation that need to be considered, the economist further stated.
He also underscored the need to raise competitiveness and sign free trade agreements with different countries.
Dr Mustafizur made the remarks while speaking at a seminar titled “Bi-annual Economic State & Future outlook of Bangladesh Economy: Private Sector Perspective” organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) at the DCCI Auditorium in the city’s Motijheel area on Sunday.
Dr. Monzur Hossain, Member (Secretary), General Economic Division, Bangladesh Planning Commission, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest.
Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr. A K Enamul Haque, Director (Research) of Monetary Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Mahmud Salahuddin Naser, another BB Director of SME & Special Programmes Department Nawshad Mustafa, and Economics Officer of South Asia Department at Asian Development Bank (ADB) Md.
