Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, is showing signs of improvement after being admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries sustained during a clash in the capital.

A medical board has decided to move him from the intensive care unit (ICU) to a cabin, hospital officials said.

“He is being shifted from the ICU today,” Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman, director of the hospital, said on Monday, bdnews24.com reported.

“Nur’s physical condition is improving, and doctors are keeping him under observation. His nasal bone and jawbone will take some time to fully heal. We hope he will be able to return home within the next week.”

Nur’s injuries were caused by violence on Friday evening in Naya Paltan, where leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad clashed.

At one point, members of Gono Odhikar Parishad gathered in front of the Jatiya Party’s offices on Boxculvert Road.

Nur was preparing to address the media when, according to witnesses, Army and police personnel struck him and his colleagues with batons.

The Gono Odhikar Parishad has claimed that at least 50 activists, including Nur, were injured in the attack.

The interim government has also condemned the incident
