A police constable has been killed after a car ploughed into his motorcycle in Munshiganj’s Gazaria Upazila.
The accident took place at Baluakandi along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway around 9am on Friday, said Sub-Inspector Shawkat Hossain of Bhaberchar Highway Police.
The constable, 44-year-old Zillur Mia, was the son of Auhid Mia, who runs a sweetmeat business in Rasulpur village.
He worked as a constable at the Narayanganj police superintendent’s office, bdnews24.com reports.
Witnesses said that Zillur was heading home to Rasulpur on his motorcycle when a Cumilla-bound car from Dhaka struck the two-wheeler near the Baluakandi Bhuiyan Petrol Pump and sped off.
Later, locals rescued him and took him to the Gazaria Health Complex, where a doctor declared him dead.
The body has been kept in police custody, SI Shawkat said.
Efforts are underway to identify the errant car and take necessary legal action over the incident, Shakwkat added.
